Hires Root Beer Mug Utica Stoneware

Made by White’s Pottery in Utica, NY. from 1890 through 1907, this rare blue and gray salt glazed mug has a rough, tree trunk like surface and is embossed “Hires Rootbeer” on the front. A lattice of twigs forms the top and bottom borders, and a tree branch forms the handle. The mug measures 5 3/8 inches tall by 5 inches wide with the handle and is in good condition. It has some flaking of the pottery finish around the top rim, a chip approx. 1/4″ on the rim, a couple of 1/4 inch chips on the base, and a tight 1 inch hairline crack on the rim. For something this old, the condition is hard to beat. The handle is in tact with great deep blue color. 16744-TP
