Initially used in London, England, this small glass served ice cream to customers. They would purchase a dip of ice cream for a penny, eat the dip of ice cream, and lick the glass. As you can imagine, this was not very sanitary and was banned in 1898. When looking at the glass, you think you are getting a lot for a penny. Still, the thickness of the glass made the ice cream appear more significant than it was. This glass stands 2 3/4 inches tall, has a 1 3/4 inch base, and is free of chips and cracks. It has a mold mark on the lower part, just above the stem. Like other penny-lick glasses, this one does not have any markings on it. 21238-TP
