Just as today, drivers in the 1950s looked for signs indicating gas stations and restaurant locations along their drive. In the 1950s, signs such as this Flying A Service porcelain sign sat high in the air atop a pole, allowing customers to see it with ease. This double-sided porcelain measures 72 inches across and from top to bottom. It features the iconic Flying A logo in the center, with “Flying” above and “Service” below. Each side of this large sign has sharp colors and good gloss on the porcelain finish. Side A has minor damage around the outer edge with porcelain and metal loss. There are minor chips on the center with porcelain loss as well, along with multiple chips on the left side. Side B exhibits the same damage and wear around the outer edge, accompanied by porcelain and metal loss. There are minor chips and scratches in the field, along with fading on the bottom half of the sign. Along the bottom edge, “R 456” is visible.
