This very rare sign made of wood and features a Smaltz coating once hung outside of a Buick Motor Cars dealership in the early 1920’s. The Smaltz coating was a rough black paint that allowed the unpainted letters to shine brightly when a passing cars headlights shown on it. Touting “Valve-In-Head” this wooden sign measures twenty-five inches tall by fifty-six and a half inches wide. The face of the sign is two boards with brackets on the back and sides to keep it sturdy. Some minor wear can be seen from use over the years.
