When service stations offered full-service, this Esso Oil Display Cabinet would have been placed in front of the Esso gas station, between the gas pumps on the island. While the service station attendants were pumping gasoline into your car, they checked your oil, tire pressure, and washed your windows. If they found your oil level was low, they sold you a quart of oil from this cabinet, which saved them valuable steps on a daily basis. The cabinet contained multiple quarts of oil and also provided a bin for dirty rags throughout the day. Once it was time to close, the sides were attached to the cabinet, and it was locked tightly to prevent theft. This cabinet measures 56 inches in height, 21 inches in width, and 25 inches in depth. It bears an Esso decal on one side, is painted in Esso colors, and features a serial number plate that denotes it as an “Esso Oil Display Cabinet” with serial number D-21528. Typical small scratches are on the metal panels, with a few dents at the top of the removable side panels. The cabinet is made of metal and is not too heavy when it is empty.
