Holsum bread was actually many smaller local bread companies that formed a cooperative of bakeries to market a single bread recipe under the brand name Holsum. The local bakeries were located across the country with the largest being the Phoenix Bakery, which was renamed Holsum Bakery in 1929 when they purchased the rights to the name. Holsum is a verbal play on the word Wholesome, which everyone loves to hear, especially when it comes to bread. This two color neon sign dates from the 1960’s and would have been in your local bakery that distributed Holsum bread. The top neon color is a red or slightly pink color, and the bottom is blue. The transformer is original and works just like it should with a slight hum. The neon has been repaired over the years, which is typical because of how fragile it is.
