1920 marked the first year when more than 100,000 metal license plates were issued in Virginia. In fact, approximately 126,000 were issued, up from approximately 88,000 issued in 1919! This 1920 plate has a green background and white raised numbers/letters. Some minor chipping has occurred on the numbers, letters, and the raised outline. It originally only had the two oblong mounting holes, but a hole in each corner was added over the past century, for display purposes we assume. Above the middle ‘9’ it has a flat spot on the outline that happened during production, as the paint is smudged in that area. It measures fifteen and a half inches long by six inches tall.
