Used as an active mascot, Hood’s Red Man was a salesman for their tire division and spokesperson for promotional messages. He appeared in the same pose, standing with the right arm raised and the palm of the hand open, with the left hand pointing to the ground holding a red flag containing the Hood emblem. This pose was ideal to “force” motorists to stop and check their tires. If you look closely, this Red Man does not have a tie, like other signs that advertise Hood Tires. This single sided tin sign is full of color with sharp gloss and features an embossed privilege panel at the top. Some light wear with chipping can be seen around the outer edge, with some light staining. It is marked “Shonk Works – Amer.Can Co. Maywood, Ill.” in the lower right corner.
