The Darktown Fire Brigade was a series of prints produced by Currier & Ives in the late 1800s. The prints featured seven Black (African American) men in different stages of firefighting. This framed advertising shows the seven men having serious trouble with their water cart. Each man has problems with “Smoke the D. T. F. Cigar” in a Western font across the top of the print. Below the illustration reads “Published By Currier & Ives”, with the copyright year 1885. The colors are great on this print, and it will be a treasure in your collection.
