Tea Caddy Sarcophagus English Rosewood

This elegant English William IV sarcophagus style tea caddy dates from the 1830s or 1840s. It is made of mahogany with bun feet and has ornate mother of pearl inlays on the top and underside of the lid and on the front panel of the box. Inside the box is a glass mixing bowl and two tea boxes with more mother of pearl inlays on their lids. There were wooden ring handles attached to the ends originally, but, after many years of use, they have been broken off and are now missing. The tea caddy measures about eight inches tall by fourteen inches wide by eight inches deep and is in excellent condition. Other than the missing ring handles on the ends, there are some repairs to the mother of pearl inlays, a missing silver strip inlay on the front, and a replaced molding on the back of the lid. 16062-61WTP
