Initially used in London, England, this small glass served ice cream to customers who would purchase a dip for a penny, eat it, and lick the glass. As you can imagine, this was not very sanitary, so it was banned in 1898. When looking through the glass, it appears you are getting a lot for a penny; however, the glass’s thickness made the ice cream appear larger than it was. This particular glass stands 3 3/4 inches tall, has a 2 1/4-inch base, and is in excellent condition, with a tiny chip on the side. Like other penny-lick glasses, this one has no markings. 21492-TP
