Made out of plaster of Paris, chalkware was used to create many different versions of decorative objects just as figurines. This larger counter top sign features an Eskimo and a Polar Bear on opposite sides of a Igloo with the words “Pure Ices” across the top. At their feet you see two ice cream cones with red dye added to the top. Both the Eskimo and the Polar Bear are very well detailed, with extra color added to the Eskimo’s face and clothes. Over the years some of the outer finish has chipped away from the chalkware, along with some scratches in the finish. You can see some chipping has occurred on the reverse side of this piece as well.
