Produced by Meyer Bros. & Co., Wholesale Druggist, this oak countertop display case features an etched glass top that reads “Imperial Crown Toothbrushes”. It measures 17.75 inches wide, 13 inches deep, and only 4.75 inches tall. The top opens from the front and is hinged at the back, with an internal chain so the lid does not fall backward. Inside, you see six wooden troughs (three on each side) that held Imperial Crown toothbrushes. On the front, just above the maker’s plaque, is a key for locking the showcase. The key is bent, but does turn. The showcase has typical wear and patina from use. On the inside of the lid, some of the material that holds the glass in has chipped away slightly. A piece of paper is taped to the bottom of this case that reads “Given to us by John & Mildred Dickey. Probably from the Dickey Drug Store” with a date of 1871. A quick Google search revealed that John R. Dickey founded Dickey Drug Store in the late 1800s in Bristol, Virginia. 21678-TPP
