Circa late 19th century 5 gallon straight sided handled salt glazed crock, made by Gardiner Stone Ware Manufactory, a pottery that operated in Gardiner, ME. from 1876 to 1892. They were known for embossed decorations. This crock has an eagle holding a flag and a pair of swimming swans in a blue wash incised below the Gardiner stamp. It has applied handles on the sides. It is in excellent condition with no chips, however at some point it was put down heavily and there is now a 5″ long hairline crack on the back side of the crock. The crack is easily repairable and is not very noticeable. This is a heavy piece of pottery. 10188-90IIP
