When the United States government banned alcohol sales in 1920, some producers of beer turned to ice cream production to stay afloat. Pittsburgh Brewing Company did just this, and Tech Ice Cream was born. Polly Tech was the mascot of Tech Ice Cream and this paper mache store display was used in soda fountains as a way to sell more ice cream. She was made by Old King Cole displays and stands twenty-four inches tall. Some minor wear can be seen on her skirt and hat, with some cracking in the finish on the back of her neck and shoes. The colors are fantastic on this century old piece, which includes a framed ad from Tech Food Products Company. with the slogan “Smiles right back at you!”.
