Initially used in London, England, this small glass served ice cream to customers. They would purchase a dip of ice cream for a penny, eat it, and lick the glass. As you can imagine, this was not very sanitary and was banned in 1898. When looking at the glass, you think you are getting a lot for a penny. Still, the glass’s thickness made the ice cream appear larger than it was. This glass stands 3 1/2 inches tall, has a 2-inch base, and has a small chip just under the upper edge. It also has mold lines on the stem and minor imperfections in the glass. Like other penny-lick glasses, this one has no markings. 21491-TP
