Occupational Shaving Mug Hunter

Back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when a gentleman needed a shave, he would visit his local barbershop, where the barber kept each customer’s shaving mug, inscribed with his name and often decorated with an image related to his occupation, in a cabinet. This example, inscribed “M. J. McDonald” in gold above and image of a hunter firing at a covey of game birds as his English Setter points towards them, indicates that he was a sportsman. The shaving mug measures 3 3/4 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition with worn gold trim around the rim and base. 17328-81WPP
