Rare Buckingham Bros Cigars Key Wind Counter Cigar Cutter

As cigar smoking gained popularity in the late 1800s, countertop cigar cutters were introduced. These provided a cleaner cut for cigar smokers. This cast-iron key wind model advertises Buckingham Bros. Cigars. The graphic shows a male deer, known as a “Buck,” with his antlers ramming into a Ham Leg. The image aligns with the company’s name, “Buck-in-Ham.” The top is also stamped “Baltimore, MD.” This is a key wind cigar cutter, patented by Erie Specialty Co. in Erie, PA. The inside is stamped accordingly. Patented in 1899, it works by turning or winding the key on the back, similar to a clock. Once a customer places a cigar end into the cutter hole, the mechanism releases a blade to cut it off. The cutter operates smoothly as intended and is in amazing condition for its age. Measurements are 3.5 inches tall, 6.25 inches wide, and 5 inches deep. Minor wear on the finish adds to the patina of this conversation piece. On the backside of this cutter, a small chip is seen under the top, along with a crack in the upper right corner. This makes it a sharp addition to your collection. 21472-OPP
